Dr. Douglas Won, MD Fellowship-Trained Spine Surgeon

Dr. Douglas Won, MD, FAAOS, Director and Founder of Minimally Invasive SpineCARE, is a fellowship-trained spine surgeon, board-certified by The American Board of Orthopaedic Surgeons. Chosen as one of “America’s Top Orthopedist/Spine Surgeons” in 2009 and 2010 by Research Consumers’ Council of America, he provides the most comprehensive methods of minimally invasive and endoscopic (camera-assisted) laser spine surgeries available to treat cervical, thoracic and lumbar disorders. Dr. Won uses cutting-edge surgical techniques to avoid traditional, open back and neck fusion surgeries and was recently honored with the “Patients Choice Award 2011.”

Dr. Won is uniquely trained in that he had both orthopedic-spine and neurosurgery-spine fellowship training at Washington University in St. Louis and William Beaumont Spine Center in Michigan, both of which are considered among the most prestigious spine training programs in the world. His dual-fellowship training is recognized as the highest level in spine surgery training.

Dr. Won was the first surgeon in Texas to perform endoscopic laser spine surgery with a 3mm incision. This procedure is performed without general anesthesia, and the patient is able to walk out of the surgery center within a few hours. The incision does not need any stitches and only requires a BAND-AID®. With minimal blood loss and fast recovery, the patient may return to work in just a few days. Dr. Won also recognizes that surgery is not always the best option and uses the latest nonsurgical methods to treat neck and back pain prior to exploring surgical options. In fact, more than 95 percent of his patients improve through nonsurgical care.

A member of Society for Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery, North American Spine Society, and American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS), Dr. Won is active in research and development of innovative spine care. He has been published in numerous scientific journals and textbooks, and has lectured internationally on all aspects of spinal disorders. He has also developed new minimally invasive spine surgery techniques, as well as state-of-the-art minimally invasive surgical devices, to treat spinal disorders. Dr. Won appears regularly as a medical expert for ABC/WFAA-TV, CBS Radio, The Marty Griffin Show on 1080 KRLD, Sunday Morning Magazine with Mark Willis on FM. 103.7 KVIL and FM 106.7 KDL. Furthermore, he is a clinical assistant professor at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School. He continues to lecture and train other spine surgeons around the world in the latest minimally invasive techniques.
